About our Judo Club

The BNJC has been running in Backwell since 1989 and have taken residence on the Backwell Playing Fields between 1996 and 2024 before more recently moving to St Francis Primary School in Nailsea. We run 6 classes a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for children as young as five all the way through to adults. Instruction is provided in the style of Kyushindo Judo as taught by the late Kenshiro Abbe Sensei.

Students are encouraged to participate in the many facets of judo: break-falling techniques (ukemi), throwing techniques (nage-waza), groundwork (katame-waza), competition, teaching and kata (pre-arranged forms).
